About Garret Ward Photography
Garret Ward Photography is a husband and wife dynamic wedding photography duo located in Columbia, CT. Garret and Ashley attended high school together at Coventry High but it wasn't until after they both graduated college that they began dating. They were married in September of 2016. It is with the passion they have for each other that they look through the lens to capture the emotion at every wedding they shoot.
“I guess you could say, photography is in my blood. My father was designated ship's photographer of the USS Talbot during his time serving in the Navy. Because of this, photography has always had a special meaning to me.” It wasn't until after Garret graduated from Franklin Pierce University with a Bachelors degree in Communications, that he discovered his passion for photography. He bought his first camera in 2012 and after countless hours of learning the ins and outs of the camera, he shot his first wedding in 2013. This turned into 7 weddings in 2014 and 13 weddings in 2015.
A teacher by trade, Ashley received a Bachelors degree from Westfield State University and holds a masters of Education from the University of St. Joseph. She got her start in wedding photography by assisting. After getting a feel for it, and learning how to compose great shots, she slowly began taking pictures during the receptions. She has since turned her assisting role into a hybrid second shooter where she'll set up detail shots during bridal preparations, she'll grab a camera and shoot during the ceremony, then back to assistant mode to make the formal portraits go smoothly, then back to shooting for the entire reception. It provides seamless integration and flow from one part of the wedding to the next and also provides an additional vantage point during the important moments during the ceremony and reception.
We capture your special moments with the best tools for the job. We shoot full frame cameras which provide high quality, high resolution images. Garret shoots with one Canon 5d MarkIII and one Canon 5d MarkII camera bodies with top of the line Sigma lenses. One camera has Sigma's 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and the other camera has Sigma's 105mm f/2.8 macro lens along with Sigma's 70-200mm f/2.8 lens as a back up. Ashley shoots with on Canon 5d MarkII with Canon's 50mm f/1.4 lens. Never short on backups, we bring at least 2 extra batteries and plenty of extra memory cards for each camera body. We also use a mix of Canon and Yongnuo flashes with wireless triggers in case we need to use the flashes off camera. When it comes to processing your portraits, we use Adobe Lightroom CS6 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. We believe less is more when it comes to post processing. We adjust for proper exposure, highlights, shadows, and color balance but we try to avoid too much airbrushing because it takes away from the true to life moments.
All of our equipment is fully insured and we have a $1,000,000 liability policy which some venues require from vendors.
